Rajasthan Sleeper Bus Fire Claims 21 Lives, Four Critical

Rajasthan Sleeper Bus Fire Claims 21 Lives, Four Critical

Post by : Rameen Ariff

A devastating fire broke out on an AC sleeper bus traveling from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur on Tuesday around 3:30 pm, claiming 21 lives and leaving four critically injured. The bus was en route to Jodhpur when flames suddenly engulfed the vehicle, turning a routine journey into a tragedy.

Fatalities and Hospital Updates

Nineteen passengers died on the spot, while one more succumbed to injuries at a hospital in Jodhpur. Earlier today, a 10-year-old boy named Yunus, who had sustained severe burns, also passed away during treatment. Four other victims are currently on ventilators, fighting for their lives in critical condition.

Identification Process Underway

Authorities have begun the process of identifying the deceased. DNA samples are being collected from the relatives of victims at hospitals in Jodhpur and Jaisalmer. Families have raised concerns over delays in the collection process, but hospital officials clarified that verification takes time to avoid any mismatches. The identification procedure is expected to be completed within 24 hours.

Challenges and Verification Procedures

Given the severity of burns and the condition of the victims, identification through DNA testing is necessary. Officials emphasized that accurate verification is crucial to prevent errors. Authorities are working diligently to complete the process swiftly while maintaining safety and accuracy standards.

Impact on Families and Community

The incident has left families devastated, with relatives expressing grief and anxiety while waiting for news about their loved ones. The tragedy has also shaken local communities in Rajasthan, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced safety measures in public transport, particularly for long-distance sleeper buses.

Response from Authorities
Emergency services, police, and hospital teams responded quickly to the incident, managing rescue operations and providing medical care. Authorities have assured families that all necessary support, including medical treatment and psychological assistance, is being provided to survivors and the affected families.

Need for Safety Measures
This incident underscores the risks associated with public transportation, especially in long-haul journeys. Safety protocols, fire safety equipment on buses, and emergency preparedness are vital to prevent such tragedies in the future. Government agencies are expected to review regulations and enforce stricter safety measures following this devastating accident.
