The investigation into this week's car explosion near Delhi's historic Red Fort is intensifying, with authorities probing potential connections to a series of arrests in Jammu and Kashmir. The blast resulted in eight deaths and over 20 injuries, raising alarms about coordinated anti-terror activities across various states.
Insiders reveal that seven individuals, including two doctors from Kashmir, were detained shortly before the Delhi blast under suspicions of possessing firearms and bomb-making equipment. Police recovered two pistols, two assault rifles, and approximately 2,900 kg of explosives during their operation. Investigators are currently assessing whether the driver involved in the blast had ties to the arrested healthcare professionals.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA), India's federal anti-terror unit, has assumed control of the investigation and is collaborating closely with the Delhi Police to uncover any potential links. Both agencies have opted not to release specific details or disclose any suspects at this moment.
The incident is being treated under robust anti-terrorism legislation, underscoring the severity of potential organized threats in the national capital. Enhanced security measures are now in place around critical landmarks, including the Red Fort, India Gate, and other public venues.
This case underscores the ongoing difficulties faced by Indian authorities in their battle against terrorism and in ensuring public safety in high-risk urban environments.
