Aditya Dhar’s film, Dhurandhar, featuring Ranveer Singh as the lead, has made a significant impact at the Indian box office, surpassing ₹600 crore domestically and hitting ₹900 crore globally. Although initially released solely in Hindi, the movie has connected with audiences in southern states, leading the producers to plan a broader pan-India release for the sequel.
Released on December 5, the first movie has gained immense popularity not just in Hindi-speaking regions, but also in major South Indian cities like Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bengaluru. Recent occupancy rates indicated Dhurandhar achieving 28.75% in Hyderabad, 37.25% in Chennai, and a remarkable 49.25% in Bengaluru, often competing with performance metrics from Mumbai and Delhi. This positive feedback has spurred the filmmakers to create dubbed versions of Dhurandhar 2 in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam, in addition to Hindi, facilitating a significant nationwide rollout.
The finale of Dhurandhar unveiled a glimpse into the protagonist’s intriguing backstory, effectively paving the way for the sequel, which is set to debut on March 19, 2026, during the Eid festivities. Dhurandhar 2 aims to expand on Ranveer Singh’s character, Hamza Ali Mazari (aka Jaskirat Singh Rangi), diving deeper into his clandestine missions and origins, thereby enhancing the allure of this thrilling espionage narrative.
Featuring an impressive cast that includes Ranveer Singh, Sara Arjun, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, and Rakesh Bedi, the film is brought to life by Jio Studios and B62 Studios. Aditya Dhar, known for his compelling storytelling, has directed and co-produced the film.
The remarkable success of Dhurandhar can be attributed to a dynamic social media buzz, positive word-of-mouth, and repeat viewers, especially in South India, where audiences have expressed interest in experiencing the film in their native languages. The sequel’s pan-India strategy is designed to leverage this excitement and connect with an even broader audience.
Dhurandhar 2 is poised for a theatrical release concurrent with Yash and Kiara Advani’s eagerly awaited film, Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups, promising a thrilling box office clash in March 2026.
With Dhurandhar’s extraordinary success serving as a launchpad, fans look forward to the next installment of this high-stakes spy thriller, geared for an exhilarating cinematic experience across multiple languages in India.
