Dhurandhar Breaks Records with Rs 1006 Cr, Becomes Bollywood’s Biggest Hit

Dhurandhar Breaks Records with Rs 1006 Cr, Becomes Bollywood’s Biggest Hit

Post by : Meena Ariff

Dhurandhar has emerged as the blockbuster Bollywood desperately needed in 2025. Following the early success of Chhaava, Dhurandhar has closed the year with renewed optimism, dominating both box office collections and public conversations. In just 21 days, the film has grossed an astounding Rs 1006.7 crore worldwide, breaking numerous records along the way.

The film’s 21st day alone brought in Rs 26 crore, surpassing its opening day collection of Rs 28 crore, a rare feat in the industry. Domestically, Dhurandhar’s earnings have reached Rs 668.80 crore, supported by an impressive occupancy rate of 50% on Day 21—an increase from its 33.81% opening day footfall across India.

Despite a minor reduction in screens to 4,753 shows on Day 21, Dhurandhar remains a strong contender in theaters, even amid competition from recent releases like Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, which opened with 32.67% occupancy across 3,000 shows.

Ranveer Singh delivers a powerful performance, marking a significant comeback and drawing comparisons to his acclaimed roles in Padmaavat and Bajirao Mastani. The film has also sparked renewed attention for Akshaye Khanna, whose standout scenes and a viral dance sequence have made him an internet sensation. Dhurandhar has surpassed the lifetime earnings of Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1, becoming the highest-grossing Indian film of the year.

Notably, Dhurandhar now holds the title of the highest-grossing A-rated Indian film globally, overtaking Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal.

While praised for its technical brilliance, the film has faced criticism from some quarters as “well-made propaganda,” though this has not dampened its commercial success.

Directed by Aditya Dhar, the film features a strong ensemble cast including Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Rakesh Bedi, Arjun Rampal, and Sara Arjun. Produced jointly by Jio Studios and B62 Studios, Dhurandhar is already set to expand its universe with a sequel slated for release on March 19, confirming its status as a major Bollywood franchise.
