On March 28, 2026, Canadian officials detected a significant contraband seizure in the minimum security unit of Dorchester Penitentiary. This operation was executed by the vigilant team from Correctional Service Canada.
Staff members apprehended a delivery containing multiple illegal substances, including tobacco, cannabis extract termed “shatter,” and crystal meth. The estimated value of the confiscated contraband was around $75,050, pointing to a substantial effort to smuggle drugs into the facility.
The Correctional Service Canada has reiterated its unwavering commitment to preventing contraband entry, highlighting the inherent dangers such substances pose to inmates, staff, and visitors alike, potentially jeopardizing the safe functioning of correctional environments.
To combat these threats, the agency employs advanced security measures, such as ion scanners for drug trace detection and specially trained dogs to inspect premises, inmates, visitors, and their belongings. These strategies enhance institutional security and curtail illegal operations within the prisons.
In collaboration with law enforcement, authorities investigate and prosecute those implicated in the smuggling of contraband into correctional facilities. Emphasizing the importance of inter-agency cooperation, officials stress that it's vital for thwarting such illegal activities.
Additionally, Correctional Service Canada has also launched a confidential tip line, allowing individuals to report any suspicious or unlawful activities anonymously. This initiative aims to better equip authorities to identify and mitigate potential security threats.
Officials confirmed that they will continue to bolster security measures to ensure a safe and orderly atmosphere within correctional establishments throughout Canada.
