DP World Invests in Eye Hospital Growth in Abuja

DP World Invests in Eye Hospital Growth in Abuja

Post by : Badri Ariffin

DP World has revealed a new investment of US$500,000 towards expanding the Tulsi Chanrai Foundation (TCF) Eye Hospital situated in Abuja, Nigeria. This funding increases the total investment in the initiative to US$1.5 million since its inception in 2019.

This collaboration between DP World and TCF aims to combat avoidable blindness while enhancing accessibility to quality eye care for marginalized communities across Nigeria. This effort aligns with TCF’s “Mission for Vision” initiative, ensuring that everyone can access affordable, top-notch eye treatment.

TCF Eye Hospital in Kukwaba, Abuja, offers crucial services like cataract and glaucoma surgeries, pediatric eye care, low vision support, along with community outreach initiatives. The hospital adopts a cross-subsidy approach where contributions from paying patients help finance free treatment for the less fortunate.

Since 2019, this partnership has made a tangible impact, achieving around 60,000 eye surgeries at the Abuja facility, of which 63% were provided at no charge. The hospital also conducts outreach programs covering a 100-kilometre radius around Abuja, offering free screenings, transportation, surgeries, medications, and post-operative care.

Thanks to this new funding, the hospital plans to increase its bed capacity from 82 to 160. Future phases will also include the establishment of a training institute to nurture local eye care professionals, thus reinforcing healthcare capabilities in Nigeria.

DP World states that this initiative underscores its commitment to delivering long-term social value in regions where it operates. In addition to healthcare, the company also plays an essential role in logistics and freight services, making noteworthy contributions to the Nigerian economy.
