UAE FNC Chair Advocates Humanitarian Law at IPU Gathering

UAE FNC Chair Advocates Humanitarian Law at IPU Gathering

Post by : Maya Rahman

Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the UAE Parliamentary Division to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), addressed the 151st IPU General Assembly in Geneva, underscoring the crucial nature of international humanitarian law. He articulated that respecting this law is not only mandatory but essential for ensuring justice and human dignity.

Dr. Al Nuaimi pointed out that humanitarian efforts are increasingly embroiled in political agendas amid global conflicts. He warned that such politicization poses a threat to the core mission of aid—namely, the protection of human rights and lives—leaving countless individuals at risk.

In his speech, he called on parliamentarians to elevate humanitarian action above political and geographical disputes, stating, “Human suffering intensifies when we neglect our legal and ethical responsibilities in crises.” Aid must focus on alleviating suffering, he insisted.

He reiterated the UAE’s commitment to universal human values that connect communities across borders. The UAE’s humanitarian initiatives, he said, are rooted in a philosophy of solidarity that serves as a beacon for global cooperation.

Dr. Al Nuaimi noted that millions are still grappling with hunger, insecurity, and lack of essential services, such as healthcare and clean water. He urged parliaments to unite for effective responses, emphasizing a collective duty for global well-being.

He highlighted the UAE’s proactive approach in humanitarian and charitable initiatives, especially in regions like Africa that are troubled by conflict and poverty. The UAE aims to deliver food, medical supplies, education, and infrastructural support to enhance the welfare of impacted communities.

Building partnerships among nations and fostering mutual values, he outlined, are vital to achieving a sustainable and peaceful future. Synergistic efforts among parliaments, governments, and humanitarian entities can magnify the effectiveness of aid and promote global stability.

Dr. Al Nuaimi concluded with a strong reminder that adherence to international humanitarian laws guarantees dignity and justice for all. Upholding these principles not only protects vulnerable populations but also fortifies global unity and promotes collaborative action in addressing crises.

He urged global parliamentarians to engage more actively in humanitarian endeavors, championing human rights policies, and facilitating initiatives to ensure that aid is provided equitably and without bias.

The address showcased the UAE’s unwavering commitment to humanitarian initiatives and the vital role of parliamentary involvement. Through the pursuit of laws, values, and international partnerships, Dr. Al Nuaimi reaffirmed the UAE’s pledge to foster a more just and humane global society.
