His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, recently assessed the Jumeirah Beach 1 development project, a key initiative by Dubai Municipality aimed at revitalizing public beach facilities and enhancing the waterfront experience.
Accompanying His Highness during this visit were notable figures, including His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority; His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence; His Excellency Abdulla Mohammed Al Basti, Secretary General of The Executive Council of Dubai; and His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Urban Planning in Dubai.
Director General of Dubai Municipality, His Excellency Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, provided a detailed update on the project, indicating that construction is over 95% complete. Spanning 1,400 meters, the redevelopment involves a thorough enhancement of beach design, amenities, and infrastructure.
The highly anticipated reopening is planned for early February, aiming to unveil a multifaceted coastal destination. Updated features will include modern sports and recreational facilities, family-friendly amenities, as well as dedicated paths for pedestrians, cyclists, and joggers, all designed to promote an active lifestyle for the community.
Sheikh Hamdan reiterated Dubai's commitment to setting international standards in urban development through sustainable design and focus on community needs. He stressed that infrastructure initiatives are crucial for enhancing both wellbeing and resilience.
"Our goal is to create a smart, future-ready city equipped with sustainable infrastructure, premier public spaces, and beaches that offer high-quality services," His Highness stated. He emphasized the importance of public beaches as integral to Dubai's urban identity and its dedication to improving residents' and visitors' quality of life.
This upgrade aligns with the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033 and complements the Dubai Urban Master Plan 2040, which prioritize sustainable coastal development and enhanced accessibility.
The project encompasses improved health and service amenities, including high-standard restrooms, showers, and changing areas. It will also offer designated zones for beach activities, seasonal events, parking facilities for vehicles and buses, and electric vehicle charging stations.
As part of the Municipality's innovative smart beach initiative, the project will feature advanced technologies such as free Wi-Fi, digital information displays, smart lockers, and AI-powered monitoring systems connected to central control offices.
A principal focus of this redevelopment is environmental resilience, including raising the beach levels and introducing 250,000 cubic meters of clean sand to tackle rising sea levels and ensure sustainability.
Moreover, the project will present more than 15 investment opportunities within sectors like retail, dining, and beach services, fostering economic growth while enhancing Dubai’s beach tourism landscape.
The Jumeirah Beach 1 transformation embodies Dubai Municipality’s vision to evolve public beaches into integrated urban spaces, enhancing community health and reinforcing Dubai’s stature as a top global destination for living, working, and visiting.
