Dubai Kicks Off Active Summer 2026 with Citywide Sports Events

Post by : Badri Ariffin

The Dubai Sports Council (DSC) has unveiled the "Active Summer" initiative, a comprehensive sports program that spans until August 31, 2026. This effort is geared toward reinforcing Dubai’s status as a premier year-round sports hub, offering a plethora of sporting events and activities for both residents and visitors of every age.

In collaboration with various national bodies and event organizers, the initiative features both indoor and outdoor competitions, alongside marine and water sports, snow activities, mall races, and special programs for People of Determination throughout Dubai.

Essa Sharif, Director of the Sports Events Department at Dubai Sports Council, emphasized that the initiative aims to foster a sports culture among all community members, irrespective of age or background. He indicated that the council is committed to boosting public engagement in summer sports while elevating quality of life and bolstering Dubai’s reputation as one of the globe's most active cities.

A standout feature of this initiative is the Dubai Mallathon, set to occur from June 15 to September 15. This event allows both amateur and professional runners to take part in races held in air-conditioned malls, and it has already seen over 40,000 participants, proudly earning a Guinness World Record for the largest indoor mall race.

Another major highlight is Dubai Sports World, scheduled from June 27 to August 25, offering a mix of indoor sports, tournaments, and family-friendly activities. This year introduces the Dubai Kids World, along with tailored programs for senior citizens in association with the Thukher Club to promote active lifestyles.

Emphasizing inclusivity, the Summer Activity for People of Determination will run from June 22 to July 30 under the theme "Our Summer is Beautiful." This program is set to include specialized sports and recreational events to boost participation and nurture athletic skills.

The summer sports calendar will also host the third round of the One Body community sports initiative, spearheaded by ex-England and Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand along with his wife Kate, featuring several international athlete participants.

Additionally, numerous competitive tournaments will be organized, such as the Dubai Schools Games basketball tournament, Dubai Esports and Games Festival (Expo 2026 Games), Apex Fitness Games, Dubai Open Football Academies Championship, UAE Expat Basketball Championship, and the Ibn Battuta Run.

Other competitions will cover boxing, bodybuilding, artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, swimming, badminton, sailing, football, and futsal.

Winter sports fans can rejoice as Ski Dubai announces an exciting schedule, including the Freestyle Skiing Grand Prix and various international training programs featuring teams such as the British UNIQ snow camp and the Saudi Paralympic teams.

Ski Dubai will also maintain its weekly Freestyle Ski Night and host the renowned Hyrox indoor ice fitness challenge, expected to draw considerable enthusiasm throughout the summer.

Through Active Summer 2026, Dubai seeks to inspire continuous sports engagement, promote healthier living, and create sporting avenues for every segment of society.
