The first-ever World Sports Summit, hosted by the Dubai Sports Council under the esteemed guidance of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, wrapped up its inaugural session in Dubai.
Carrying the theme “Uniting the World Through Sport,” this summit became the largest global sports gathering of its kind, attracting over 1,500 attendees. Participants included prominent sports leaders, presidents of major clubs, officials from international federations, esteemed athletes, and other notable figures who have significantly impacted the sports world.
The two-day event featured 70 distinguished speakers from a variety of sports disciplines, with discussions centered on innovation, investment, athlete development, governance, and the future of global sports.
A Platform for Collaborative Sports Initiatives
His Excellency Khalfan Juma Belhoul, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, remarked that the summit successfully brought together sports leaders and decision-makers from almost 50 nations. Backed by His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE National Olympic Committee and Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, the summit aimed to foster cooperation, create partnerships, and develop legislation that empowers communities through sports.
He underscored the role of sports in fostering international understanding and encouraging a collaborative global future.
Highlights From the Second Day
On the second day, a compelling session featured renowned Mixed Martial Arts champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, moderated by former England and Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand. Nurmagomedov shared insights on leadership, discipline, and the responsibilities that athletes hold as role models, emphasizing the importance of accountability and positive influence.
Other notable discussions included Italian football legend Roberto Baggio alongside his daughter Valentina Baggio, as they reflected on resilience and personal growth throughout challenges, including Baggio’s missed penalty in the 1994 World Cup final.
Life Beyond Sports
American sports icons including Reggie Bush and Baron Davis spoke about transitioning from their playing careers to meaningful roles in sports management, illustrating how sportsmanship and discipline contribute to entrepreneurship and success.
Fitness leader Kayla Itsines also inspired attendees with her progression from simple workout videos to creating a thriving global fitness community. She discussed the significance of trust and the evolving role of technology in fitness.
Exploring Marketing and Investment Opportunities
Several sessions dove into the fusion of sports with branding, featuring speakers like Jamie Wayne, CEO of Jimmy Choo, and highlighting the roles athletes and clubs play as global brand ambassadors.
The EuroLeague basketball segment showcased the historic entry of Dubai Basketball Club into European competition, with discussions on future ambitions and planning.
Investment discussions were particularly enlightening, featuring notable investors who shared their insights on sustainable growth and identity in club ownership.
Legacy and Inspiration
Renowned speaker Nick Santonastasso captivated the audience with his motivational story of overcoming barriers through determination, while Boston Celtics CEO Wyke Grousbeck offered valuable insights on elite sports leadership.
The summit concluded with an impactful dialogue featuring World Cup legends Ronaldo, Cafu, Puyol, Iniesta, Didier Deschamps, and Fabio Cannavaro, moderated by Alessandro Del Piero, as they reflected on discipline and achievement.

The World Sports Summit has solidified Dubai’s position as a key global hub for sports dialogue, innovation, and investment, laying the groundwork for future international collaborations in the sports sector.
