Dubai's Sports Sector Aims for AED 18.3 Billion Growth by 2033

With a comprehensive plan, Dubai is solidifying its position as a global hub for sports, driving economic growth through innovative strategies. The emirate is fusing sports with tourism, technology, and business to enhance its attractiveness for global investors.

This growth trajectory is supported by Dubai's hosting of international sports events, investment in top-tier sports infrastructure, and a thriving ecosystem that promotes sports media, tourism, and commercial collaborations.

Strategic Vision 2033: Major Expansion for the Sports Sector

The Dubai Sports Sector Strategic Plan 2033 targets a rise in the sports sector's GDP contribution from AED 10.17 billion annually to AED 18.3 billion. This marks an almost 80% increase compared to current figures.

In addition, the plan aims to boost public engagement in sports, projecting attendance at major events to rise from 1.67 million to over 4.1 million, with a 250% increase in events anticipated in the upcoming years.

Dubai Economic Agenda D33 Fuels Sports Growth

Aligned with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, the sports industry is emerging as a fundamental component of the city’s future economy. Expansion is driven by factors such as sports tourism, broadcasting rights, commercial sponsorship, and the growing digital landscape surrounding sports.

Dubai successfully hosts over 400 local and international sporting events each year, along with nearly 100 training camps for renowned international clubs and national teams, benefiting sectors like hospitality, aviation, and retail.

Sporting Events as Catalysts for Business and Tourism

The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships stands out as a key event, bringing together elite tennis players and garnering significant media attention across the globe. This tournament enhances Dubai’s stature as a premier destination for sporting excellence.

Salah Tahlak, the Tournament Director, asserts that the tournament exemplifies Dubai’s capability to host prominent events that elevate the economy, attract tourism, and foster investment and partnerships in sports.

The Dubai Marathon also retains its status as a globally recognized event, drawing runners from various countries and yielding direct economic benefits across hospitality, aviation, and retail.

Ahmed Al Kamali, General Coordinator of the Dubai Marathon, emphasizes that the sport serves as a significant economic stimulant in Dubai, thanks to the tourism and media opportunities generated through international competitions.

Diverse Sporting Events Enrich Dubai’s Portfolio

In recent times, Dubai has broadened its sporting calendar by integrating global golf events, mixed martial arts, cricket, and extensive running, cycling, and marine competitions, enhancing economic returns and audience engagement.

Basketball and Esports: New Investment Frontiers

To attract internationally popular sports, the emirate has launched the Dubai Basketball initiative, now part of the European ABA League. This move reinforces Dubai's position as a pivotal venue for sports investment.

Additionally, Dubai is establishing itself as a keystone in the esports arena, one of the rapidly expanding sectors worldwide, creating numerous investment opportunities in digital economy and media production.

Ahmed Al Khaja, CEO of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment, notes that events like the Dubai Esports and Games Festival highlight the sector's growth and its increasing contribution to the emirate’s creative economy.

Football Training Camps and International Leadership

Dubai has become a sought-after location for winter training for top football Clubs and national teams due to its state-of-the-art facilities and hospitality. These camps generate vital economic benefits for both sports and tourism.

The city also demonstrates its global leadership through the Dubai International Sports Conference, a platform uniting sports pioneers to discuss innovative trends in investment, technology, and artificial intelligence within sports.

Global Recognition Elevates Dubai's Image

Hosting major sporting events amplifies Dubai's global presence, with extensive media coverage bringing its iconic landmarks and attractions to millions worldwide, fortifying its status as a leading sports, tourism, and investment hub.
