Dwayne Johnson Discusses His Journey Through Divorce and Healing

Dwayne Johnson Discusses His Journey Through Divorce and Healing

Post by : Meena Ariff

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson recently candidly discussed the emotional hurdles he faced during his separation from his ex-wife Dany Garcia. Married for 16 years, the couple divorced in 2007, an event that significantly shaped their daughter Simone's upbringing, who is now 24.

“When you decide to marry, you're committed for life, but sometimes things don’t turn out as planned,” Johnson mentioned in a recent podcast conversation. “It had a profound effect on me. With a baby involved, I had to reflect on the kind of father I wanted to be.”

Impact on Mental Health and Career Decisions

The aftermath of the divorce left Johnson grappling with mental health issues, leading him into a depressive phase. “I was truly going through a tough time then,” he admitted.

Moreover, this challenging period influenced his choice of roles. Post-divorce, he actively pursued lighter, family-oriented films such as The Game Plan and Tooth Fairy. “I wanted to steer clear of anything that would emotionally devastate me,” he noted. “I desired uplifting stories with happy resolutions—and I thrived on making those movies.”

Successful Co-Parenting and Business Collaboration

Even amidst personal challenges, Johnson and Garcia have fostered a robust co-parenting dynamic. They also continued collaborating in business, establishing Seven Bucks Productions, which has since become a significant player in Hollywood.

“Even though marriage wasn’t part of our future, we recognized we were creating something remarkable together,” Johnson reflected.

Now married to Lauren Hashian and sharing two daughters—Jasmine and Tiana—Johnson's journey illustrates how personal hardships can lead to growth, resilience, and renewed purpose.
