Fahmi Urges Malaysians to Uphold Rukun Negara

Fahmi Urges Malaysians to Uphold Rukun Negara

Post by : Shakul

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has called on Malaysians from all walks of life to embrace and practice the principles of the Rukun Negara, echoing the message delivered by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, during the official birthday celebrations at Istana Negara.

Fahmi said the King’s remarks serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of national unity, mutual respect, and social harmony. He emphasized that the lessons from the tragic May 13, 1969 racial riots must never be forgotten and should continue to guide the nation toward peace and stability.

According to the minister, political leaders have a special responsibility to uphold the values of the Rukun Negara and avoid actions or statements that could create division among Malaysians. He stressed that preserving unity requires continuous effort from both leaders and citizens alike.

Speaking after the federal awards and honours investiture ceremony, Fahmi described the King’s address as timely and highly relevant, particularly at a time when public discourse can easily become polarized. He noted that respect for diversity remains one of Malaysia’s greatest strengths.

The minister said that understanding and practicing the principles of the Rukun Negara should go beyond symbolic observance. Instead, these values should be reflected in daily interactions, public conduct, and national decision-making processes.

Earlier during the ceremony, Sultan Ibrahim reminded Malaysians that the spirit of the Rukun Negara must remain the foundation of the nation. His Majesty also urged political figures to exercise caution when discussing sensitive issues, especially during election periods when public emotions can be heightened.

The royal address highlighted the need for responsible leadership and constructive dialogue to ensure Malaysia continues to enjoy peace, prosperity, and social cohesion. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, senior government leaders, and recipients of federal awards and honours, reflecting the significance of the occasion and the message delivered by the King.
