Officials at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne have lifted evacuation and shelter-in-place orders following the resolution of a security threat near Gate 1. Authorities confirmed that the situation is no longer active, though response teams remain present as a precautionary measure.
The alert started Thursday morning with a report of a suspicious package at the base’s main entrance. This prompted a significant emergency response, involving various agencies such as the Cheyenne Police Department, Laramie County Sheriff’s Office, and Wyoming Highway Patrol.
In response, a security perimeter was established around the vicinity, with personnel in multiple buildings instructed to shelter in place. The base’s Child Development Center evacuated children to safety, while surrounding residents were temporarily advised to leave. These measures were taken purely as a safety precaution to ensure public welfare.
The incident resulted in considerable traffic disruptions, with parts of Interstate 25 closed for over an hour and several roads obstructed as emergency teams investigated the scene. Visitors to the base were rerouted to alternate access points during the crisis.
By late morning, it was confirmed that the package posed no danger. Evacuation orders were rescinded, roads reopened, and normal activities gradually resumed, although Gate 1 remains temporarily closed while investigations continue.
This situation underscores the stringent security measures enforced at military facilities, where any potential threats are managed with utmost caution to safeguard personnel and local communities.
