Amazon is transforming the viewing experience with the introduction of a dedicated news feature on Prime Video, set to launch for all U.S. users at no cost by year’s end. This initiative aims to enhance user engagement while keeping subscribers informed through live news updates.
This news feature will host live feeds from prominent networks such as ABC News Live, CBS News 24/7, CNN Headlines, NBC News NOW, and Fox’s LiveNOW. It will cover a spectrum of global, national, and local news, thereby providing a comprehensive array of topics and timely information. With multiple channels consolidated in one platform, Amazon envisions a user-friendly way for audiences to access credible news, particularly amidst heightened competition in the streaming sector.
In addition to the free news content, Amazon is rolling out an exclusive subscription channel, Sony Pictures Core, for $6.99 each month in the U.S. and Canada. This channel will feature a selection of Sony's films and TV series, enriching the entertainment available without requiring users to exit the Prime Video app.
This strategy—offering free news to attract a broad audience while providing a paid channel for dedicated viewers—highlights Amazon’s goal to increase subscriber interaction and enhance its streaming portfolio. As competitors escalate their offerings in original content and live broadcasts, Amazon aims to establish Prime Video as both a reliable news source and a diverse entertainment platform, ensuring a rounded experience for its subscribers.
