Coco Gauff kicked off her pursuit of an Australian Open title with an impressive straight-sets win over Kamilla Rakhimova at Rod Laver Arena this Monday. The third seed triumphed with a score of 6-2, 6-3, moving into the second round.
Despite demonstrating some shakiness in her serve, Gauff briefly succumbed to a break at 5-2 in the second set. However, Rakhimova could not capitalize, missing two match points in the subsequent game, ultimately allowing Gauff to seal her victory with a backhand over the baseline.
Gauff, a former semi-finalist in Melbourne and last year’s quarter-finalist, is aiming for her third Grand Slam title following her recent French Open championship.
In the upcoming round, she will compete against left-handed Olga Danilovic, who made headlines by defeating Venus Williams on the opening day.
