An Indian national was among the four people killed in a shooting incident in the US state of Georgia, the Indian mission in Atlanta confirmed. The incident is suspected to be linked to a family dispute and occurred in Lawrenceville city early Friday morning.
In a statement shared on social media, the Consulate General of India in Atlanta expressed grief over the tragic incident and said the accused has been arrested. The mission added that all possible assistance is being provided to the affected family.
Local authorities identified the suspect as Vijay Kumar (51), a resident of Atlanta. Police said he has been taken into custody and is facing multiple serious charges connected to the deaths.
The victims have been identified as Meemu Dogra (43), Gourav Kumar (33), Nidhi Chander (37), and Harish Chander (38). Investigators said all four adults were found dead inside the home with fatal gunshot injuries.
Police received the emergency call at around 2:30 am (local time) from a residence located in the 1000 block of Brook Ivy Court. Officers arrived at the scene within minutes and discovered the bodies of the four victims inside the house.
Officials also confirmed that three children were present inside the home when the shooting began. To protect themselves, the children reportedly hid in a closet. One child managed to call 911, giving critical details that helped responders reach the location quickly.
The children were not harmed and were later picked up by a family member, police said.
Authorities have filed several charges against the accused, including multiple counts of murder, aggravated assault, and cruelty to children. The investigation is ongoing, and officials have not released further details about the motive at this stage.
