Google has unveiled a groundbreaking feature named Gmail Live, transforming its email platform into a more interactive assistant. Powered by Google’s Gemini AI, this innovation allows users to engage with their inbox via straightforward voice or text inquiries.
With Gmail Live, users can directly pose questions about their emails rather than wading through countless messages. For instance, queries like, “When is the upcoming school event for my child?” or “Which hotel did I book for my trip to Dubai next month?” can be answered swiftly, with the system fetching essential emails and providing lucid spoken or written replies.
This feature aims to streamline email management, tackling the issue of “cognitive overload” where users face overwhelming numbers of emails, notifications, and tasks.
Gmail Live improves on previous AI advancements in Gmail, such as AI Inbox, which intelligently organizes emails. The AI Inbox summarizes content, highlights key tasks, groups similar discussions, and emphasizes urgent items like bills, bookings, and appointments.
According to Google, Gmail Live functions as a conversational assistant akin to Gemini Live, enabling users to conduct interactive vocal exchanges while retrieving information from emails and associated documents.
The company is broadening its AI capabilities across various Google applications, including Docs, Calendar, Keep, and Drive, with Gmail being a primary focus due to its storage of vast personal and professional data.
Reports indicate that Gmail Live is set to launch this summer for mobile users enrolled in Google AI Pro and Ultra plans. Currently, some features of AI Inbox are restricted to premium users in the U.S., with plans for a more extensive rollout in the future.
