Hyundai Motor has announced an ambitious expansion strategy aimed at strengthening its global business and increasing profitability. The South Korean automaker plans to add 1.27 million units of production capacity by 2030 and expand its US hybrid lineup as demand for fuel-efficient vehicles continues to grow. The company has raised its 2030 consolidated operating margin target to more than 9%, compared with its earlier forecast of 8% to 9%. However, its 2026 margin guidance remains unchanged at 6.3% to 7.3%.

More than 100 new and refreshed vehicles planned

As part of its global product strategy, Hyundai plans to launch or update more than 100 vehicles by 2030. More than half of these models are expected to be introduced in North America. The upcoming range will include the Santa Fe extended-range electric vehicle (EREV), which will be produced at Hyundai's Alabama facility. The company also plans to introduce a new luxury hybrid model.

Stronger focus on hybrid and electric vehicles

Hyundai is targeting global sales of 5.55 million vehicles by 2030, which would represent around 6% of the global market. Electrified vehicles are expected to account for 60% of sales by then, compared with 23% in 2025. The company is also benefiting from growing interest in fuel-efficient vehicles in the United States. Higher gasoline prices have encouraged more consumers to consider hybrid models.

Robotics and autonomous driving expansion

Hyundai's future strategy goes beyond traditional vehicles. The automaker is expanding into autonomous driving, robotics and robotaxi services. Deliveries of IONIQ 5 vehicles to Waymo for robotaxi operations are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026. Hyundai's Motional venture also plans to start driverless commercial services later this year. The company intends to begin US robot production in 2028, with an annual capacity target of 30,000 units.
