IIT Madras Alumnus Dies of Heart Attack in UAE After Farewell

Post by : Rameen Ariff

A 37-year-old Indian-origin engineer, Hariraj Sudevan, tragically passed away from a heart attack in the UAE just hours after dropping his wife and son at Abu Dhabi International Airport. The incident occurred on Sunday, October 5, leaving his family and friends in deep shock.

According to reports, Hariraj Sudevan, an IIT Madras alumnus, had gone to his friend Digin Thomas’s home to celebrate a birthday after bidding farewell to his wife, Dr. Anu Ashok, and son, Ishaan Dev Hari, who were returning to Kerala. During the celebration, Sudevan suddenly complained of breathing difficulty and chest discomfort around 11:40 pm. Despite immediate medical attention and CPR performed by paramedics, he was declared dead at the hospital.

His close friend Digin Thomas shared that Sudevan was in a cheerful mood just before the incident, playing with the children and participating in the cake-cutting ceremony. “Doctors tried for almost half an hour to revive him, but they couldn’t save him,” he said with grief.

Sudevan had been living in the UAE for over 12 years, working as a senior offshore construction engineer. He completed his B.Tech from CUSAT and earned his M.Tech from IIT Madras. His wife and son had just spent 10 days with him before returning to India. He had planned to visit Kerala later this month to celebrate his son’s 10th birthday on October 27.

Family members revealed that Sudevan was diabetic, but he managed his condition through diet, yoga, and regular exercise. Recently, he had mentioned some minor ECG concerns during a routine health check, but follow-up tests had shown normal results.

His father-in-law, Ashokan KP, said the family is heartbroken. “We are all devastated and finding it difficult to accept that he is no more,” he shared.

The sudden death of Hariraj Sudevan in the UAE has left his loved ones mourning a man remembered for his kindness, discipline, and dedication to family and work
