Panaji, Goa: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places across North and South Goa districts on Saturday. The alert comes as strong winds, blowing at 30-40 km/h with gusts up to 50 km/h, are expected to accompany the rainfall.
Following this, a yellow alert remains in effect from Sunday to Tuesday, forecasting heavy rainfall at isolated locations across the state. Wind speeds during this period are expected to remain similar, with gusts reaching up to 50 km/h.
In addition to the rainfall warnings, the IMD has issued a caution for squally weather conditions along and off the coasts of South Maharashtra and Goa, lasting until Tuesday. Wind speeds in these maritime areas may reach 40-50 km/h, with gusts up to 60 km/h. Fishermen are strongly advised not to venture into the sea due to the hazardous conditions.
Parts of Goa experienced brief spells of moderate to heavy rainfall on Friday, indicating the gradual end of the southwest monsoon season. Panaji recorded a maximum temperature of 28.3°C on Friday, a drop of 2.3°C from previous days, while the minimum temperature stood at 23.7°C. Since June 1, Goa has received a cumulative rainfall of 3,030.7 mm, approximately 119 inches.
Authorities have urged residents to stay updated with official weather advisories and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during these adverse weather conditions. The IMD’s alert highlights the importance of preparedness as Goa faces heavy rainfall and strong winds over the coming days.
