The Indian U17 football team is gearing up for the 2026 AFC Under-17 Men’s Asian Cup Qualifiers, commencing this Saturday at the EKA Arena in Ahmedabad. Coach Bibiano Fernandes has announced a 23-member squad that will aim to secure a spot in the finals to be held in Saudi Arabia next year, which will also serve as a qualifier for the FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar.

India is in a group with four other nations, kicking off their campaign against Palestine on November 22. Following this, they will face Chinese Taipei on November 26, Lebanon on November 28, and Iran on November 30. Only the top team from the group progresses to the final tournament, emphasizing the significance of each match for India's aspirations.

The squad showcases a diverse lineup of goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders, and forwards. Keeping the goal secure are Manashjyoti Baruah, Maroof Shafi, and Rajrup Sarkar, who are prepared to deliver crucial saves.

Defensive duties will be handled by Abhishek Kumar Mondal, Ankur Rajbagh, Indra Rana Magar, Korou Meitei Konthoujam, Lawmsangzuala, Md Aimaan Bin, and Shubham Poonia. Their blend of experience and agility is vital to thwart opposing attacks.

The midfield is filled with promising players who are eager to manage the gameplay and generate scoring chances. Selected midfielders include Dallalmuon Gangte, Denny Singh Wangkhem, Diamond Singh Thokchom, Mukundo Singh Ningthoujam, Nitishkumar Meitei Yengkhom, and Thonggoumong Touthang, who are essential for maintaining team balance.

Head coach Bibiano Fernandes expressed confidence in the squad's capacity to excel under pressure, emphasizing teamwork, discipline, and strategy. Each player was carefully chosen based on performance metrics, fitness levels, and future potential.

This qualifier presents a vital chance for India to display its burgeoning talent on a global stage. It permits players to adapt to various playing methods from around the world, setting the stage for intensely competitive matches as teams vie for a final spot in Saudi Arabia.

The AFC U17 Qualifiers form part of India’s broader initiative to enhance youth football programs, preparing a new generation for international contests. The players are dedicated and have engaged in rigorous training to ensure peak performance throughout the qualifiers.

Fans are set for thrilling encounters as India aims to progress forward and establish a presence in the Asian football landscape. With thorough preparation and a blend of talent and dedication, India is poised to make a significant impact against its rivals.
