India delivered a dominant all-round performance to defeat Afghanistan by an innings and 300 runs in the one-off Test at New Chandigarh, securing the biggest victory by innings margin in the country's Test cricket history. The match ended on the third day as India's bowlers completely outclassed the Afghan batting lineup.
The star of the contest was debutant left-arm spinner Manav Suthar, who produced a remarkable performance in his first Test appearance. Suthar claimed six wickets in Afghanistan’s first innings and added another in the second innings to finish with impressive match figures of 7 for 62. His spell played a decisive role in putting India firmly in control of the game.
India had earlier posted a massive first-innings total of 564 for 8 declared, built on strong batting performances throughout the lineup. Afghanistan struggled to respond and were bowled out for 152 in their first innings, handing India a huge lead of 412 runs and forcing the visitors to follow on.
Rahmat Shah provided the only significant resistance for Afghanistan with a determined half-century. His score of 60 became the first Test fifty by an Afghan batter against India, but he received little support from the rest of the batting order as wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals.
In the second innings, Afghanistan showed brief promise with a solid opening partnership led by Sediqullah Atal. However, India’s spin attack quickly took control. Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav dismantled the middle and lower order, sharing seven wickets between them and ending any hopes of a prolonged fightback.
Washington Sundar finished with four wickets while Kuldeep Yadav picked up three crucial scalps. Afghanistan collapsed from a promising position to be dismissed for just 112 runs, highlighting India's complete dominance with both bat and ball throughout the match.
The victory marked another significant milestone for Indian cricket and showcased the depth of the team's bowling resources. Manav Suthar’s memorable debut has also provided India with a promising new spin option as the team continues to build for future international challenges.
