Maple Leafs Goalkeeper Joseph Woll Injured Mid-Game Against Hurricanes

Maple Leafs Goalkeeper Joseph Woll Injured Mid-Game Against Hurricanes

Post by : Meena Ariff

Toronto Maple Leafs' goalie Joseph Woll was compelled to leave Thursday night's match against the Carolina Hurricanes due to a lower-body injury. After two periods, Woll left the ice, with Dennis Hildeby stepping in to take over for the rest of the game. The specifics of the injury's onset were not immediately clear.

Despite Woll’s untimely departure, the Maple Leafs achieved a convincing 5-1 win against the Hurricanes, thereby marking their third consecutive victory. Head coach Craig Berube mentioned that the team is currently evaluating the seriousness of Woll's injury, with no additional updates on his status available at this time.

The 27-year-old Woll had recently made his season debut on November 15, having missed the initial month due to a personal family issue. His much-anticipated return has now been overshadowed by another injury, adding to the ongoing goaltending issues faced by the Maple Leafs.

Meanwhile, Anthony Stolarz, the team’s other primary goalie, has been out since November 11 with an upper-body injury, leaving the team in a precarious situation regarding their goaltending resources during this crucial time in the season.

Hildeby, who came in during the game against the Hurricanes, has played six games this season, boasting a .914 save percentage and one victory. His experience may become invaluable if Woll's injury leads to an extended absence.

The uncertainty surrounding their goaltending situation puts additional pressure on the Maple Leafs, making the recovery of both Woll and Stolarz a critical focus as the season progresses.
