Recent reports indicate that Apple Inc. may postpone the anticipated release of its standard iPhone 18 from 2026 to possibly 2027, with a potential reveal alongside other new models.
Analyst Dan Nystedt has stated that the upcoming iPhone 18 could include 12GB of RAM, marking a significant upgrade in memory for a standard iPhone. This upgrade aligns with the enhancements seen in the iPhone 17 Pro series, which transitioned from 8GB.
Focus on Performance and AI
The increase in RAM reflects Apple's intensified commitment to AI functionality. Anticipated improvements include advanced AI features and an enhanced Siri, which will demand greater computational power and memory.
Additionally, there's speculation surrounding a new A20 chip, utilizing innovative 2nm technology from TSMC, likely delivering up to 15% enhanced performance while conserving energy.
Potential Postponement
Reports imply that Apple could implement a staggered launch approach to navigate supply chain challenges and increasing costs, particularly due to a global shortage of memory chips. Consequently, the iPhone 18 may debut later alongside models like:
iPhone 18e
iPhone Air 2
Anticipated Features
Despite the possible delay, the iPhone 18 is projected to boast several enhancements:
6.3-inch OLED display with 120Hz ProMotion
More compact Dynamic Island (approximately 35% smaller)
24MP front-facing camera with Centre Stage support
Streamlined Camera Control button featuring pressure sensors only
Introduction of a Foldable iPhone
In addition, Apple is gearing up for the launch of its inaugural foldable iPhone, likely named iPhone Ultra or iPhone Fold, which may debut ahead of the iPhone 18.
