Israel is looking to strengthen its economic engagement with India, seeing opportunities in fintech, artificial intelligence, manufacturing, and defence cooperation. During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s second official visit to Israel, Shmuel Abramzon, Israel’s chief economist, described the relationship as entering a decisive phase focused on delivery and practical outcomes.
Both nations are keen to finalize a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), with Israel emphasizing the urgency of deepening ties amid India’s expanding trade deals with the European Union, the United States, and other global economies. Abramzon highlighted India’s scale in technology and financial services as a natural complement to Israel’s advanced tech capabilities.
Israel also identified sectors such as agriculture, water management, semiconductors, and civilian technologies for potential collaboration. Defence remains a sensitive but central pillar of India-Israel ties, framed within a broader strategic alignment emphasizing regional peace and strength.
The visit aims to move bilateral relations from symbolic gestures to tangible outcomes, with Israel positioning itself as an active participant in India’s growth story, particularly in digital finance, manufacturing, and emerging technologies.
