Jimmy Shergill Father Satyajit Singh Dies at Age 90

Jimmy Shergill Father Satyajit Singh Dies at Age 90

Post by : Rameen Ariff

Bollywood actor Jimmy Shergill’s father, Satyajit Singh Shergill, passed away on October 11, 2025, at the age of 90. The family has announced that the Bhog and Antim Ardas will be held on October 14 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Gurudwara Dhan Pothohar Nagar, Santacruz West, Mumbai.

Jimmy Shergill, known for his powerful performances in hit films like Mohabbatein, Tanu Weds Manu, Special 26, and Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster, comes from a family deeply connected to art and culture. His late father, Satyajit Singh Shergill, was a senior artist, and their family roots trace back to a village in the Gorakhpur district.

Jimmy, whose real name is Jasjit Singh Gill, once shared personal memories of his early years. He recalled cutting his hair at 18, which led to emotional differences with his parents. Reflecting on that time, the actor said, “You are young and make mistakes; even I made some. But not talking to one’s parents is more painful. My parents probably forgave me within a year or so. Maybe it was destiny — I never thought I’d enter the film industry, but perhaps it was meant to be.”

The actor’s humility and respect for his roots have always been evident throughout his journey. Starting his career with Maachis, Jimmy rose to fame with Mohabbatein, which made him a household name. Despite his charming “chocolate boy” image, he soon decided to take on more challenging and meaningful roles.

In one of his interviews, Jimmy revealed that he even returned signing amounts to some producers because he wanted to explore diverse roles instead of repeating similar characters. “Everyone would say, ‘Why change? This is working,’ but I felt that this phase wouldn’t last long. That’s when films like Munna Bhai MBBS, Haasil, and Yahaan came to me,” he said.

Over the years, Jimmy Shergill has built a reputation for his versatility, choosing roles that show both emotional depth and realism. As he mourns the loss of his father, fans and fellow actors are sending prayers and condolences to the Shergill family during this difficult time.
