Rishab Shetty’s folk epic, Kantara Chapter 1, experienced a slight earnings dip on Thursday as the five-day Diwali celebrations concluded. Nonetheless, the film remains a strong performer on both domestic and international fronts.
According to Sacnilk, the film garnered ₹9.85 crore on Day 21, marking a 16.17% drop from the previous day. The movie has excelled outside Karnataka, drawing considerable revenue from the Hindi regions, Telugu states, Tamil Nadu, and international markets.
The Hindi version raked in ₹4.25 crore on October 22, slightly eclipsing the Kannada version's ₹4.1 crore. With these figures, Kantara Chapter 1 is on the verge of surpassing the ₹560 crore net domestic milestone, currently at ₹556.75 crore after 21 days. The worldwide gross has exceeded ₹760.5 crore, with ₹108.5 crore from foreign collections.
Produced by Hombale Films, Kantara Chapter 1 debuted in Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Tamil. Due to its growing international acclaim, the filmmakers plan to release an English-dubbed version on October 31.
The English version will run for 2 hours and 14 minutes, shorter than the original at 2 hours and 49 minutes. This adaptation is anticipated to further boost the global box office performance.
The film was initially set to stream on Amazon Prime Video around October 30, approximately four weeks after its theatrical release. However, considering its ongoing box office success, the precise streaming date might be adjusted to optimize theatrical earnings.
Set in pre-colonial Karnataka during the Kadamba dynasty in Banavasi, Kantara Chapter 1 explores the conflict between forest-dwelling tribes and a despotic king. It features a cast that includes Rishab Shetty, Sapthami Gowda, Gulshan Devaiah, Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, P D Satish Chandra, and Prakash Thuminad.
