Karan Johar Clarifies Homebound Comments, Hails Film’s Global Success

Karan Johar Clarifies Homebound Comments, Hails Film’s Global Success

Post by : Rameen Ariff

Mumbai, India – Filmmaker Karan Johar has addressed the recent criticism over his remarks on Homebound, the Janhvi Khatter and Vishal Jethwa-starrer, clarifying his unwavering support for the film and urging media and fans not to misquote or misinterpret his statements. His response comes after director Neeraj Ghaywan appeared to take a subtle dig at Johar following the controversy.

KJo Responds to Backlash

Taking to his Instagram, Karan Johar shared a detailed note, emphasizing his pride in Homebound. “I humbly request my friends and members of the media to not misconstrue or misquote my comments on our film HOMEBOUND. It was an academic chat on the business of our movies… I am and will always be exceptionally proud of HOMEBOUND,” he wrote.

He added that the film will always hold a special place in his repertoire: “It will always shine in our collection of films as one of our finest and most sensitively performed and directed works. We are actively working to ensure that our film reaches a large audience and presence on a global stage, and we are thrilled with the increasing domestic footfalls.”

Balancing Art and Commerce

In a recent appearance on the Game Changers podcast, Johar elaborated on his filmmaking approach, balancing artistic vision with commercial considerations. “I made Homebound, which is critically acclaimed worldwide, but I can’t say if I’ll take such decisions in the future. Growth comes from profit, and profit comes from profitability. I will always be artistic, but it is important to be commercial as well,” he said.

Neeraj Ghaywan’s Reaction

Homebound’s director, Neeraj Ghaywan, responded subtly to KJo’s comments. The controversy began after Johar hinted that he might not make a film like Homebound again due to its limited financial returns. Fans had also noticed a reduction in the number of Homebound screens to prioritize Varun Dhawan’s Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, which added to the criticism.

Recently, Ghaywan shared a fan review on Instagram praising Homebound, saying, “Oh man. I’m still shaken. The scene between Shoaib & Chandan’s mother just broke me!! Take a bow @neeraj.ghaywan @somenmishra @ishaankhatter @vishaljethwa06.” The post appeared to highlight the emotional impact of the film while subtly addressing the comparison to Dhawan’s release.

Karan Johar Reaffirms Commitment

Through his clarification, Karan Johar underlined that his remarks were purely about film business dynamics and not a reflection on the film’s quality. He reiterated his pride in Homebound, celebrating the performances of the cast and crew and expressing optimism about its continued success in theatres.
