Boney Kapoor's younger daughter, Khushi Kapoor, has formally begun work on Mom 2, the follow-up to her late mother Sridevi's acclaimed 2017 drama, Mom. The original film won Sridevi a posthumous National Film Award for Best Actress, raising expectations and emotional stakes for the sequel.
In March, Boney Kapoor indicated he was collaborating with Khushi on a film and hinted that a sequel to Mom was under consideration. The announcement divided opinion online, with many users debating whether Khushi could meet the high bar set by her mother's performance.
Production reportedly resumed after Diwali, and previously unseen set photos surfaced on social media around Khushi's 25th birthday. In the images she appears in a relaxed sweatshirt, focused on her scenes. TV star Karishma Tanna is also pictured on set, dressed in a traditional white salwar kameez.
Insiders say filming began last week in Mumbai and that the team has completed the initial ten days of the schedule. Khushi is said to be cast in a central role, indicating the sequel will again centre on powerful emotional arcs. Sources add the shoot is proceeding without major issues and the crew is optimistic.
While Ravi Udyawar directed the original, Girish Kohli will take the director's chair for Mom 2. Kohli, who contributed to the story and wrote the screenplay and dialogues for the first film, has been entrusted with directing after Boney Kapoor cited Kohli's familiarity with the material and his work on the Sohum Shah film Crazxy as decisive factors.
There is talk that Boney Kapoor may formalise the sequel’s announcement on his birthday, November 11, with promotional reveals expected to follow. Fans anticipate official updates that could include behind-the-scenes footage and more details about Khushi’s part.
With Khushi's screen debut, the inclusion of performers such as Karishma Tanna, and the legacy of Sridevi’s landmark role, Mom 2 is already drawing attention in Bollywood. Observers expect the film to revisit themes of family, justice and resilience that defined the original.
