A serious and shocking attack occurred on Friday at a tire factory in central Japan, where a 38-year-old man stabbed eight people and injured seven others by throwing bleach. The incident took place at the Yokohama Rubber Co. factory in Mishima city, located in Shizuoka prefecture, west of Tokyo.
Emergency services responded promptly after the attack was reported. According to the fire department and local authorities, the attacker used a survival knife to stab eight individuals. Among those stabbed, five were in serious condition and were immediately taken to nearby hospitals for urgent medical treatment. In addition to the stabbing, the man threw bleach at seven other people, causing chemical injuries that also required hospital care.
Police arrived at the scene quickly and arrested the suspect on charges of attempted murder. Witnesses said the man was wearing a gas mask during the attack, which added to the alarming nature of the incident. However, officials have not yet disclosed any information regarding the suspect’s motive or background.
The attack has raised concerns across the region, especially since Japan is generally known for its low crime rates and strict gun control laws that keep violent crimes relatively rare. Despite this, the number of violent knife attacks has increased in recent years, highlighting growing worries about public safety and workplace security.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to understand the reasons behind the attack and to prevent such incidents in the future. No additional details about the suspect’s identity or motives have been released at this time.
Meanwhile, the injured are receiving treatment, and the community remains in shock after the violent event at the tire factory.
