The Seattle Kraken clinched a vital 3-2 overtime victory against the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday night, breaking a six-game losing streak. Vince Dunn scored the decisive goal just 1:21 into overtime during a power play, marking a significant home win for Seattle. Key contributions also came from Jared McCann and Matty Beniers, while goalie Joey Daccord demonstrated his skills with 24 saves. On the Kings' side, goals were added by Alex Laferriere and Kevin Fiala, but Anton Forsberg’s 30 saves weren’t enough to secure a win.
Beniers tied the game for the Kraken with just 24.8 seconds remaining in regulation, executing a perfect redirection on Eeli Tolvanen's sharp pass after McCann was tripped, giving Seattle fresh momentum.
In the extra period, the game shifted in Seattle's favor when Adrian Kempe was penalized for tripping at 1:05. The Kraken took full advantage, with Tolvanen assisting Dunn, who unleashed a powerful slap shot from the right circle to clinch the victory, marking the end of their prolonged losing run.
Earlier in the third, the Kings surged ahead 2-1 with Fiala netting his 11th goal, aided by Anze Kopitar’s pinpoint pass that allowed Fiala a breakaway. However, the Kings couldn't maintain their lead as the Kraken applied constant pressure.
Seattle's initial goal arose at 3:21 of the second period during a power play. Following Quinton Byfield's broken stick, Dunn connected with McCann for a blistering one-timer, only for Laferriere to respond shortly thereafter with a shorthanded effort to tie the game.
Earlier that day, the Kraken announced rookie forward Berkly Catton had been placed on injured reserve due to a hand injury sustained in their last match against Detroit. Seattle now aims to carry this momentum forward despite his absence.
In fan discussions, the debate continues regarding Jack Eichel's standing compared to stars like Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon. While Eichel is recognized as elite, most analysts still view McDavid and MacKinnon as the top-tier players in the league.
This thrilling encounter not only provided Seattle with a confidence boost but also showcased excellent teamwork during crucial power plays, with standout performances from players like Vince Dunn, Matty Beniers, and Jared McCann.
