Lambton College Shooting: Suspect Arrested by Sarnia Police

Lambton College Shooting: Suspect Arrested by Sarnia Police

Post by : Shweta

Officers in Sarnia have successfully apprehended a suspect tied to the tragic shooting at Lambton College, concluding a manhunt that extended over two weeks. Authorities confirmed the arrest of 24-year-old Kyaw “Chin” Doe on a Monday, following a meticulously coordinated operation.

As per the Sarnia Police Service, investigators tracked Doe to a residence in London, where he was thought to be hiding. Collaborating with the London Police Service and its Emergency Response Unit, officers surrounded the property. The suspect surrendered peacefully at the scene and was promptly taken into custody.

Doe faces several serious charges, including second-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder, and illegal possession of a firearm. He remains in custody and is expected to appear in court for a bail hearing as the legal proceedings advance.

These charges relate to the fatal shooting that took place during the early hours of April 10 at the Lions Den Pub, located on the Lambton College campus. The unfortunate incident reportedly ensued from a dispute between two groups. Dane Nisbet, 20, from Sarnia, was fatally injured, while two others survived with non-life-threatening wounds.

In a statement, Police Chief Derek Davis expressed heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family and the broader community, acknowledging the profound impact of the loss. He emphasized that the arrest may provide some comfort as the investigation progresses.

This case has seen multiple arrests prior; three individuals had already faced charges, including one with second-degree murder accusations and two charged as accessories after the fact.

Authorities actively sought Doe, searching areas in London linked to him. In light of the severity of the situation, a reward for information leading to his arrest was escalated to $50,000, highlighting the urgency of apprehending the suspect.

While this arrest represents a pivotal moment in the investigation, police noted that further court proceedings will be essential in determining the outcome. The case continues to resonate deeply within the local community, raising ongoing concerns regarding safety near educational institutions.
