A major fire broke out this evening in the Barzalla neighborhood of Srinagar, destroying several commercial buildings, including a carpet production facility, according to officials.
Initial reports indicate that the blaze began at a junkyard and quickly extended to nearby establishments filled with highly combustible materials like foam, paint, thinner, and carpets. The fire was so intense that it produced thick clouds of black smoke rising high into the sky, visible from afar.
Dozens of fire tenders were dispatched by the Fire and Emergency Services to combat the fire. Firefighters fought against the flames for several hours, facing challenges to stop the inferno from reaching neighboring residential areas.
During the firefighting operations, two individuals from the fire department were injured and quickly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. They are reported to be in stable condition.
Senior officials from the administration and fire department arrived at the scene to supervise the efforts and manage relief operations.
Authorities have communicated that the fire is mostly under control, but cooling efforts are ongoing as some parts of the affected buildings continue to smoulder. The exact cause of the fire is still unclear and will be determined once an investigation begins.
