The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a weather alert warning residents of several states to prepare for thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and strong winds. The advisory remains in effect until 9 PM as unstable atmospheric conditions continue to develop across large parts of the country.
According to the latest forecast, several districts in Kedah, including Baling, Kulim, and Bandar Baharu, are expected to experience intense rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. In Perak, areas such as Kerian, Larut, Matang, and Selama have also been placed under weather surveillance as storm activity intensifies.
The warning extends to the east coast region, where Dungun and Kemaman in Terengganu, along with Lipis in Pahang, are likely to witness periods of heavy rain and gusty winds. Authorities have urged residents in these locations to remain cautious, especially those living in flood-prone and low-lying areas.
In East Malaysia, large sections of Sarawak are expected to be affected by the adverse weather conditions. Areas including Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Kapit, Bintulu, Miri, Marudi, and Limbang may experience thunderstorms capable of causing localized flooding and travel disruptions.
Sabah is also forecast to receive significant rainfall. Regions covering Sipitang, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Nabawan, Tawau, Sandakan, Kudat, and several areas along the West Coast are expected to face heavy showers and strong winds during the evening hours.
Meteorologists have warned that thunderstorms can develop rapidly and may bring sudden downpours, lightning activity, and temporary reductions in visibility. Such conditions can affect road transportation, outdoor activities, and daily commuting, particularly during peak travel hours.
Authorities are advising the public to stay updated through official weather channels and take necessary precautions. Residents are encouraged to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, secure loose objects around homes, and remain vigilant as severe weather conditions continue to impact various parts of Malaysia.
