In a Champions League clash in Athens on Wednesday, Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe scored four goals, including the second-fastest hat-trick in the tournament’s history, to lead his team to a 4-3 comeback victory against Olympiacos.
The match started in favor of the Greek hosts, with Chiquinho giving Olympiacos an early lead in the 8th minute. Real Madrid responded quickly when Mbappe equalized in the 22nd minute after beating two defenders, assisted by Vinicius Jr. Just two minutes later, Mbappe scored again with a header from an Arda Guler cross. He completed his hat-trick within six minutes and 42 seconds, marking one of the fastest in Champions League history.
Real Madrid dominated the rest of the first half, even hitting the woodwork through Aurelien Tchouameni. Olympiacos, however, kept fighting and reduced the deficit in the second half with Mehdi Taremi’s header. Mbappe then scored his fourth goal around the 60th minute with another assist from Vinicius Jr., giving Real a 4-2 lead.
Despite the setback, Olympiacos continued to press, and Ayoub El Kaabi scored in the 81st minute to make it 4-3. The Greek side applied heavy pressure in the closing minutes but could not find an equalizer.
Real Madrid’s win was their first ever at Olympiacos in five attempts, ending a three-game winless streak across all competitions. The victory moved them up to fifth place in the Champions League standings with 12 points, keeping them in contention for a knockout stage spot. Olympiacos remained at the bottom with just two points.
Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso praised Mbappe’s performance, saying, “Mbappe is very important. His goals are fundamental, but also his teamwork and personality make a big difference.” The coach also highlighted the team’s composure, noting that despite trailing early, the players stayed calm and secured a vital win.
Mbappe’s remarkable display underlined his status as one of the top forwards in world football, while Real Madrid showed resilience in a high-scoring encounter in Athens.
