Empowering Emirati Scholars: MBZUAI Launches RAIS Fellowship

Empowering Emirati Scholars: MBZUAI Launches RAIS Fellowship

Post by : Badri Ariffin

Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) has announced the Ruwwad AI Scholars (RAIS) Fellowship, a crucial initiative aimed at cultivating a new wave of Emirati researchers and educators in the field of artificial intelligence.

This fully funded, two-year postdoctoral fellowship is specifically tailored for UAE Nationals who have recently completed their Ph.D. candidates, providing a platform for advanced research at prominent international institutions. This initiative not only offers scholars valuable global exposure but also contributes to the long-term enhancement of the UAE’s research landscape.

The RAIS Fellowship is open to individuals from various academic fields such as machine learning, data science, engineering, biology, economics, and physics, with an emphasis on research that incorporates AI alongside computational and quantitative methods across different disciplines.

Thamar Solorio, Vice Provost of Faculty Excellence and Advancement at MBZUAI, noted that this program demonstrates a broader commitment to national growth. She emphasized that it aims to empower Emirati researchers to engage internationally while significantly contributing to the UAE's academic aspirations.

This initiative aligns with the UAE Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2031, which aspires to establish the UAE as a leader in artificial intelligence through ongoing investments in research, talent, and innovation. As the first dedicated AI university worldwide, MBZUAI plays a critical role in realizing this ambition.

Candidates showcasing strong research capabilities and alignment with national goals will have a competitive edge. Graduates of the fellowship are anticipated to take on tenure-track positions at MBZUAI and other renowned institutions.

Applications for the RAIS Fellowship are now open and will be assessed on an ongoing basis, with attention given to those submitted by mid-April. The final round of selections is slated for fellows expected to commence in Fall 2026.
