Meghan Markle is poised to re-enter the film scene with a cameo in the comedy Close Personal Friends.
At 44, the Duchess of Sussex, who gained acclaim for her role as Rachel Zane on the popular TV show Suits, will appear as herself in the movie.
Featuring a star-studded cast, Close Personal Friends includes Lily Collins, Jack Quaid, Brie Larson, Henry Golding, Natasia Demetriou, Patti Harrison, and Dustin Demri-Burn. Currently filming in Los Angeles, Markle has been spotted in Pasadena, California, donning sunglasses and stepping into a Range Rover.
The storyline revolves around a couple who develop a friendship with a celebrity duo during their Santa Barbara getaway, resulting in blurred boundaries and a mix of comically awkward moments.
Prior to marrying Prince Harry in 2018, Markle appeared in films such as Get Him to the Greek, Remember Me, and Horrible Bosses. After stepping back from royal life in 2020, the couple relocated to the U.S. and embarked on various ventures, including Netflix projects and their media company, Archewell Productions.
This past August, Prince Harry and Markle renewed their collaboration with Netflix and Archewell Productions, securing a multiyear first-look deal. “We are inspired by our partners who work with us and our Archewell Productions team to create meaningful content that resonates worldwide,” Markle stated.
Archewell Productions has already produced documentary content for Netflix, including Harry & Meghan, Polo, Heart of Invictus, and Live to Lead. Future projects include a second season of With Love, Meghan, featuring lifestyle and cooking segments, plus a special holiday episode in December.
The company is also set to adapt Carley Fortune's novel Meet Me at the Lake, which narrates a decade-long love story sparked by a chance meeting and a broken promise. Fortune expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, describing it as “a tremendous personal challenge” and “truly incredible” to witness her work being acknowledged.
With her cameo, Meghan Markle marks her first appearance in a scripted film since stepping away from acting, heralding a new phase in her creative journey with Netflix and Archewell Productions.
