After weeks of waiting, the news is finally official — Argentina, the current world champions in football, will play a FIFA international friendly match in Kerala this November. The Argentine Football Association (AFA) confirmed the update in its latest statement, ending all the suspense.

The match will be held during the international window from November 10 to 18, and Kochi is likely to host this grand event. This is part of Argentina’s two-match friendly schedule, with the other game set to take place in Luanda, Angola.

Messi and Argentina Coming to Kerala

Kerala’s Sports Minister V. Abdurahiman shared his excitement after the official announcement. He said that the arrival of Lionel Messi and his teammates will be a historic moment for Kerala. For years, the people of the state have shown their love for Argentina, and now they will get a chance to watch their heroes live.

While the exact opponent for the Kerala match has not yet been announced, fans are already preparing to welcome their favorite team.

AFA’s Full Plan

According to the AFA, Argentina will play two sets of international friendlies before the end of 2025:

  • The first set will be in the United States (October 6–14, 2025).

  • The second set will be in Luanda and Kerala (November 10–18, 2025).

The association said more details about the teams they will face will be revealed closer to the matches.

Why Kerala Loves Argentina

Kerala has always been one of the biggest fan bases of Argentina in India. From the time of Diego Maradona to the modern-day magic of Lionel Messi, Argentina has been celebrated like a local team in the state.

When Argentina won the FIFA World Cup in 2022, the celebrations in Kerala were massive. The AFA even acknowledged the love from Kerala fans, showing how special this connection has become.

Argentina Returning to India After 14 Years

The last time Argentina played in India was in 2011, when they faced Venezuela at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. That game is still remembered as one of the greatest football events in Indian history.

Now, after 14 years, Argentina will return — this time to Kerala. With Messi still part of the squad, the excitement is expected to reach a new level.

Why This Matters for India

This match is not just about Kerala. It is also a big step for Indian football. Hosting the world champions shows that India is slowly becoming a destination for top international football.

For Argentina, playing in Kerala and Angola reflects their plan to connect with fans outside traditional football hubs in Europe and South America. It shows how global the game has become and how important fan culture is in countries like India.

What Lies Ahead

The exact date, opponent, and ticket details are yet to be announced, but one thing is clear: Kerala is preparing for a football festival. For fans who have only dreamed of watching Messi in action, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Argentina’s visit will be more than just a friendly match. It will be a celebration of football, culture, and the unique bond between Kerala and Argentina.
