Oman-UAE Rail Initiative Achieves 40% Milestone, Enhancing Trade Dynamics

Oman-UAE Rail Initiative Achieves 40% Milestone, Enhancing Trade Dynamics

Post by : Badri Ariffin

The Hafeet Rail initiative, a collaborative effort involving Etihad Rail, Oman Rail, and Mubadala Investment Company, has successfully reached 40% completion on the railway connection between Oman and the UAE. This undertaking is pivotal for infrastructure and transportation development in the region.

Spanning 238 kilometres, the railway aims to facilitate rapid and reliable transportation, which will bolster trade, enhance supply chains, and contribute to the economic advancement of both Oman and the UAE.

Construction is advancing swiftly across key areas, such as Al Ain Region, Al Buraimi, Sohar, and Wadi Al Jizzi. The project traverses urban centres, industrial hubs, mountain ranges, and valleys, necessitating sophisticated engineering, including tunnels, bridges, and flood mitigation measures.

To date, over 27 million cubic metres of earthworks have been executed, and concrete works have surpassed 100,000 cubic metres. Major construction continues with approximately 80 structures underway, plus 900 concrete piles and 130 box culverts being developed.

Abdulrahman Al Hatmi, CEO of Asyad Group, remarked that progress on the project is robust and reflects the dedication of all involved partners. He emphasized that this development aligns with Oman’s railway aspirations and showcases the expertise of local talent.

Ahmed AlMusawa AlHashemi, CEO of Hafeet Rail, confirmed that achieving the 40% milestone signals substantial advancement. He noted that the ongoing priority is on maintaining velocity, ensuring safety, and delivering high standards, with the project achieving 10 million safe working hours without significant injuries.

Cutting-edge railway technologies, including advanced signaling and communication systems, are being implemented to align with international standards. These innovations will elevate efficiency, expand capacity, and ensure seamless operations across both nations.

The project is also poised to facilitate future passenger train services, simplifying travel for tourists and business visitors alike. It is in line with national objectives such as Oman Vision 2040 and the overarching development strategies of the UAE.

In summary, the Oman-UAE rail project is set to drive economic prosperity, reduce reliance on road transport, minimize emissions, and enhance connectivity in the region. It embodies a collective vision for a more integrated and sustainable future for both countries.
