New Judicial Appointment in Quebec: Mireille Pélissier-Simard Takes the Bench

New Judicial Appointment in Quebec: Mireille Pélissier-Simard Takes the Bench

Post by : Shweta

The Canadian government has unveiled a significant new judicial appointment in Quebec. Justice Minister Sean Fraser has officially announced that Mireille Pélissier-Simard is now a judge of the Superior Court of Quebec, serving the district of Québec.

This appointment aligns with the national judicial selection framework initiated in 2016, aimed at ensuring merit, diversity, and transparency. Officials indicated that this process ensures that judges across the country uphold exemplary standards of professionalism and legal acumen.

Justice Pélissier-Simard succeeds Justice D. Dumais, who has been recently promoted to Senior Associate Chief Justice of the Superior Court of Quebec, highlighting ongoing efforts to ensure robust leadership within the judiciary.

Prior to this role, Pélissier-Simard practiced as a lawyer and a family mediator in a Quebec law firm. With over 20 years of focused experience in family and human rights law, she received her law degree from Laval University and joined the Barreau du Québec in 1997.

She has made meaningful contributions to legal education and mentoring, having participated as a speaker in numerous legal conferences and contributed to various publications on family law. Her involvement with legal organizations includes the Barreau de Québec and the Association des familialistes de Québec.

Additionally, her academic contributions include teaching human rights law at Laval University. Recently, she was tasked by Quebec’s Ministry of Justice to draft a report on child support systems, showcasing her expertise in family law.

Minister Fraser has stated his confidence in Justice Pélissier-Simard’s dedication and professionalism, believing her extensive experience will benefit the community and the court significantly.

This judicial appointment exemplifies Canada’s commitment to enhancing its judicial framework by selecting highly qualified, experienced legal professionals to represent public interests across the nation.
