Several key Muslim-majority countries, including Pakistan, Indonesia, Egypt, Jordan, the UAE, Turkey, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, have expressed support for US President Donald Trump’s plan to end the Gaza conflict, signaling strong international backing for the initiative. The announcement comes as the plan faces skepticism from some Palestinian groups.
European allies of the United States also encouraged Hamas to accept the proposal. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu voiced his support for the plan while warning that non-compliance could lead to further devastation in Gaza.
The eight nations issuing a joint statement emphasized their readiness to work constructively with the United States and other parties to finalise and implement the peace agreement. Indonesia has offered troops as part of a potential Gaza security force, while Pakistan has sought to strengthen its ties with Washington through its support.
Despite the backing, some Palestinian groups remain unconvinced. Islamic Jihad, a Palestinian armed group, called the plan “a recipe for continued aggression against the Palestinian people,” while Gaza residents described it as a “farce” aimed merely at releasing hostages without ending the war.
The Palestinian Authority welcomed Trump’s initiative, describing it as a sincere effort to resolve the crisis. European leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, also praised the proposal. Macron stressed the importance of both Hamas freeing hostages and Israel committing to the plan, while Blair, part of the transitional governance proposal, described it as a “bold and intelligent plan” offering hope for lasting peace and security for both Gaza and Israel.
The plan includes forming a transitional governing body in Gaza led by Trump, with involvement from former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, aiming to restore stability, ensure humanitarian relief, and safeguard Israel’s security.
