Global markets witnessed sharp volatility as crude oil prices surged above $115 per barrel, driven by the escalating conflict involving Iran, the US, and Israel. The rise in oil prices comes as the war enters its fifth week, raising serious concerns about global energy supply disruptions.
Brent crude jumped over 3% to cross the $115 mark, while US oil prices also recorded strong gains. This surge puts oil on track for one of its biggest monthly increases, reflecting the growing uncertainty in global energy markets. The conflict has intensified after Iran-backed Houthi attacks and rising geopolitical tensions in key oil-producing regions.
Asian stock markets reacted negatively to the surge in oil prices and geopolitical risks. Japan’s Nikkei index fell sharply by around 4–5%, while South Korea’s Kospi dropped nearly 4%, reflecting investor panic and risk-off sentiment across the region.
The main concern for markets is the disruption of critical oil supply routes such as the Strait of Hormuz, through which nearly 20% of global oil supply passes. Any prolonged blockage or escalation could significantly tighten supply chains and push energy prices even higher, impacting economies worldwide.
Experts warn that continued high oil prices could slow global economic growth, increase inflation, and reduce consumer spending power. As the conflict shows no signs of easing, markets are expected to remain volatile, with energy prices playing a key role in shaping global economic trends.
