Veteran actor Pankaj Dheer, best known for portraying Karna in the iconic television series Mahabharat, passed away on October 15, 2025, at the age of 68. The actor had been battling cancer for several years and recently underwent major surgery after a relapse, but unfortunately, he could not recover from the disease.

Firoz Khan, who played Arjun in Mahabharat, confirmed the news and expressed his condolences on social media. Sharing a photograph with Pankaj Dheer, Khan wrote, “Gentleman!!! Bids goodbye. Will miss you PD. Stay blessed.” Fans and colleagues alike remembered Dheer for his dedication and contributions to Indian television and cinema.
CINTAA Statement
The Cine & TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA) released an official statement expressing deep sorrow over Dheer’s passing. The statement confirmed his death and provided details of his cremation, which took place on the same day at 4:30 pm near Pawan Hans, Vile Parle (W), Mumbai. Pankaj Dheer had previously served as the chairman of the CINTAA trust and as its honorary general secretary.
Family Background
Pankaj Dheer is survived by his wife, Anita Dheer, a costume designer. His son, Nikitin Dheer, is a well-known actor with appearances in several Rohit Shetty films including 'Chennai Express', 'Sooryavanshi', and 'Indian Police Force'. Nikitin’s wife, Kratika Sengar Dheer, is a popular television actress, and they welcomed their daughter, Devika, in 2022. Pankaj Dheer’s family expressed grief over his untimely demise.
