The second phase of the Parliament Budget Session 2026 resumed on Tuesday with proceedings in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha scheduled to begin at 11 AM in New Delhi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to address the Rajya Sabha later in the day on the ongoing West Asia conflict, which includes rising tensions involving the US, Israel, and Iran. A day earlier, he spoke in the Lok Sabha, describing the situation as a “daunting global challenge” and urging political unity in addressing its impact.
West Asia Crisis and India’s Concerns
During his previous address, Modi emphasized that the conflict in West Asia could have serious implications for global stability and India’s economic interests. He highlighted that ensuring uninterrupted supply of energy resources such as oil and gas remains a top priority for the government.
The Prime Minister also assured that the safety and security of Indian citizens abroad is being closely monitored amid the escalating situation.
Political Reactions and Security Review
While members of the ruling party welcomed the Prime Minister’s statement, opposition leaders raised concerns over the government’s preparedness. Sanjay Singh criticised the Centre, alleging that inadequate measures have created difficulties for citizens.
Amid rising tensions, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has called for a high-level meeting to assess the evolving situation in West Asia and its potential impact on India’s security and strategic interests.
Parliamentary Agenda and Reports
Apart from discussions on international developments, the session will also focus on legislative and procedural matters. The Lok Sabha is set to take up Question Hour, table official documents, and present committee reports.
A significant report by the Committee on the Empowerment of Women will also be presented, focusing on cyber crimes and online safety for women. Additionally, updates related to the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) are expected to be discussed.
Parliament is also expected to address pending legislative business carried forward from earlier sittings. This includes reviewing committee recommendations and advancing discussions on key policy matters.
