Sukhvinder Kaur Sangha, a 47-year-old Punjabi radio and television host, has been sentenced to a substantial prison term of five and a half years after being found guilty in a significant methamphetamine smuggling operation.
The ruling was handed down by Justice John Gibb-Carsley on April 10, 2026, at the British Columbia Supreme Court, stemming from an incident that transpired on October 18, 2021, at the Pacific Border Crossing.
Court records reveal that as Sangha attempted to enter Canada from the U.S., Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) inspectors selected her vehicle for additional scrutiny. Instead of stopping, she attempted to flee at high speeds, prompting a border patrol chase.
Authorities eventually apprehended her, and a search of her rental vehicle uncovered nearly 108 kilograms of methamphetamine concealed in duffel bags in the trunk. This quantity suggested a considerable scale of drug trafficking rather than a minor infraction.
In determining her sentence, the court emphasized the severity of the offense, considering the substantial drug haul and her efforts to evade law enforcement. Methamphetamine is notoriously dangerous, and large-scale cases pose serious threats to community safety.
