PureHealth, through its Greek branch, has inaugurated the University of Nicosia (UNIC) Athens, marking the launch of a pioneering model in healthcare education that blends medical training with artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics, and digital health technologies.
The objective of the new institution is to equip aspiring healthcare specialists for the technologically advanced healthcare landscape by weaving advanced digital tools into their clinical training. Students will be immersed in an educational setting that connects healthcare, research, technology, and real-world medical practice seamlessly.
The launch event saw participation from key government figures and institutional leaders from Greece, Cyprus, and the UAE, underscoring the project's strategic significance. Notable attendees included Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides, UAE Ambassador to Greece Dr. Ali Obaid Ali Al Dhaheri, PureHealth Group CEO Shaista Asif, alongside senior representatives from the University of Nicosia.
This university is part of PureHealth's overarching global vision to unify healthcare delivery, education, and research within a cohesive framework. Through its healthcare initiatives across various nations, the company aims to facilitate the transfer of medical knowledge, clinical practices, and operational expertise among the UAE, Greece, and Cyprus.
UAE Ambassador Dr. Ali Obaid Ali Al Dhaheri emphasized that this project signifies the solid partnership between the UAE and Greece while showcasing their mutual dedication to fostering innovation in healthcare and education. He expressed that the initiative is pivotal for talent cultivation, knowledge sharing, and sustainable advancement.
Shaista Asif, CEO of PureHealth Group, remarked that the healthcare arena is undergoing rapid transformation as technology, data, and clinical practice become increasingly interconnected. She highlighted that the university will cultivate professionals ready for future challenges, bolster research capacity, and enhance synergy between education and healthcare services.
Greek Minister of Education Sofia Zacharaki heralded the launch as a significant milestone for Greece's higher education landscape. She stated that the initiative aligns with the nation’s objective to elevate the quality, competitiveness, and global stature of its education sector, while reinforcing Greece’s role as a regional center for academic innovation.
Panagiotis Skandalakis, President of UNIC Athens, noted that the institute is set to revolutionize medical education by positioning artificial intelligence at the heart of its academic program. He also emphasized the importance of preparing students for careers in healthcare environments where technology and clinical practice converge.
The launch further strengthens the UAE-Greece partnership, building on the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established between the two countries in 2020. This initiative aligns with key UAE development goals, such as We the UAE 2031 and Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030, which aim to foster advanced healthcare systems, international collaboration, and workforce growth.
Designed to tackle European healthcare's pressing challenges—specifically the anticipated deficit of healthcare professionals and the influx of AI technologies—the university addresses critical needs. It’s projected that Europe will confront a shortfall of up to one million healthcare workers by 2030, hence expert development is urgently needed.
Students enrolled at UNIC Athens will gain valuable hands-on training within PureHealth's extensive healthcare network in Greece, which caters to over 1.3 million patients annually. The university also aims to introduce talent exchange initiatives with leading entities in the UAE, paving the way for students and healthcare practitioners to acquire international experience and share knowledge across vital healthcare sectors.
Through this educational initiative, PureHealth aspires to cultivate a new cadre of healthcare professionals armed with the necessary skills to navigate the future landscape of modern healthcare systems.
