Qatar participated in the 12th session of the Multi-Year Expert Meeting on Investment, Innovation and Entrepreneurship for Productive Capacity-Building and Sustainable Development, held by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development from May 4–5 at Palais des Nations in Geneva.
Representing Qatar was HE Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al Muftah, the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva.
During her speech, she provided insights into the forthcoming UNCTAD World Investment Forum 2026 and reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to collaborate with UNCTAD in hosting this global event in Doha from October 25 to 27 under the theme “Investing in the Future.”
Dr. Al Muftah detailed Qatar's thorough preparations for a successful forum despite the ongoing regional challenges. The event will focus on essential topics such as global value chains, the digital economy, green transformation, peace and reconstruction.
She emphasized the impact of recent regional tensions on vital infrastructure and gas production facilities, noting that these developments highlight vulnerabilities in global supply chains and threaten the economic stability of developing nations.
Dr. Al Muftah underscored the necessity of protecting global economic infrastructures and ensuring secure trade routes to support ongoing development and economic security globally.
Moreover, she indicated that Qatar is enhancing its position as a regional hub by merging its leadership in energy security with increasing investments in artificial intelligence. These initiatives are designed to spur innovation and strengthen Qatar’s role in sustaining stability within global markets.
In conclusion, she expressed Qatar's eagerness to welcome international delegations to Doha for the World Investment Forum in October.
