Qatar Foundation Forms New Alliances with US Universities for Student Exchange

Qatar Foundation Forms New Alliances with US Universities for Student Exchange

Post by : Badri Ariffin

During the NAFSA 2026 Annual Conference and Expo in Florida, Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) established three new agreements focused on study-abroad opportunities with top American universities.

The partnerships include Hampton University in Virginia, Xavier University of Louisiana, and Prairie View A&M University in Texas. With support from the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Washington, D.C., these collaborations aim to enhance academic cooperation and foster cultural exchanges among students from the U.S. and Qatar.

As noted by Qatar Foundation, these agreements will pave the way for students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to explore Qatar's unique educational landscape in Education City, home to globally recognized universities.

Francisco Marmolejo, President of Higher Education and Education Advisor at Qatar Foundation, emphasized that these agreements illustrate QF’s dedication to fostering globally interconnected learning environments and advancing collaborative initiatives that prioritize cultural exchange and academic excellence.

He stated that HBCU students' presence will enrich discussions within classrooms, enhance global perspectives, and provide invaluable academic, cultural, and social experiences for all involved. He also expressed gratitude to the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Washington, D.C. for its support.

Dr. Abdulnassir Al Tamimi, Executive Director of Student Services at Qatar Foundation’s Higher Education division, mentioned that these partnerships aim to deliver meaningful experiences extending beyond academic knowledge. He highlighted the opportunity for students and faculty to directly engage with Qatar's rich culture, traditions, and diverse communities.

He added that the inclusion of HBCU students will significantly enrich the broader Qatar Foundation community by introducing fresh perspectives and cultural insights.

Robert Pompey, Senior Vice President for Business Operations and Finance at Hampton University, remarked that this agreement signifies a unified commitment to global education, cultural awareness, and academic excellence. He noted the partnership's potential to broaden learning opportunities for students at Hampton University, aligning with Qatar Foundation’s goal of enriching educational experiences for HBCU students.

Marguerite Giguette, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at Xavier University of Louisiana, expressed pride in collaborating with Qatar Foundation to create avenues that expand students’ academic and cultural outlook.

Dr. Godlove Fonjweng, Assistant Vice Provost for Global Engagement and Partnerships at Prairie View A&M University, called this agreement a step toward creating impactful global learning opportunities. He asserted that the partnership aligns with the university’s dedication to academic excellence, cultural interchange, and equipping students for success in a connected world.

These new agreements further solidify the educational alliance between Qatar and the United States, enriching students with significant international experiences and fostering greater cross-cultural understanding.
