At the 35th session of the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) in Vienna, Qatar reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing global cooperation in combating serious crime, cybercrime, and corruption.
The Qatari delegation, headed by HE Legal Advisor to the Minister of Interior, Major General Dr. Abdullah Yousef Al Mal, underscored the escalating risks posed by transnational organized crime amidst ongoing geopolitical tensions.
In his speech, Dr. Al Mal emphasized that robust international cooperation is fundamental to sustaining global peace and security while tackling common security challenges. He called for intensified multilateral efforts in addressing cross-border criminal activities, cyber threats, and corruption.
He also outlined Qatar’s significant initiatives in this arena, including the upcoming hosting of the 11th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (COSP11) in December 2025.
The discussions during the conference led to the formulation of the “Doha Declaration,” an essential agreement focused on bolstering international collaboration and enhancing capacity-building measures in combating corruption.
Dr. Al Mal highlighted Qatar’s proactive involvement in cyber defense, noting its role in negotiating the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime. He urged nations worldwide to ratify this convention promptly to boost its implementation and strengthen collective measures against cybercrime.
In closing, Dr. Al Mal advocated for increased investment in crime prevention and justice initiatives. He also pointed out the importance of comprehensive strategies that address the socio-economic factors contributing to crime, with a special emphasis on empowering youth and fostering their skills and potential.
Qatar’s engagement in the UN discussions underlines its unwavering commitment to supporting international efforts aimed at enhancing global safety, preventing crime, and fostering justice through collaboration and sustainable development.
